When my Mom asked me to come back to Pennsylvania to celebrate her 80th birthday, I knew I wanted to do something more than just take her out to dinner. So I planned a two-day getaway at the Four Seasons Philadelphia. The hotel is located in the iconic Comcast building and every view is a breathtaking expanse of the city. We packed a lot into out two-day escape including dinner at Sky High and Vernick Fish, a relaxing afternoon at the Four Seasons’ spa and a private food tour of Reading Terminal. I’ve recounted my favorite parts of our trip below for you to save for your next trip to Philadelphia.
Dinner at Sky High
The first night we got in, we relaxed in the room before heading up to Sky High. This restaurant features the Jean-Georges menu from his signature restaurant and offers an unbelievable view of the city below. We watched the sun set and all the lights of Philadelphia dazzle us as we ate. Our waiter was so attentive and I had to laugh inside because he patiently listened to my Mom chat with him about anything and everything each time he stopped at our table. I definitely know where I get my outgoingness from! My favorite dish at Sky High was the octopus which was drizzled with this amazing green olive citrus dressing that give it the perfect tanginess.
Private Food Tour at Reading Terminal
Our food tour at Reading Terminal kicked off with our guide, Matt, explaining that the market originally sat on the Delaware River so that farmers from Philadelphia and New Jersey could sell their goods at the same market. We tried local food delicacies from Miller’s Twist (delicious soft baked pretzels), Nina’s Banana Pudding (better than Magnolia Cupcake in New York), Kismet Bialy’s bagles (we got the egg and cheese combo), Termini Brothers Bakery cannolis and Beiler’s Donuts. The Lancaster Amish section of the market is world renowned.
The Spa at Four Seasons Philadelphia
The whole theme of the spa at the Four Seasons Philadelphia is around healing crystals. I just love healing crystals, so this was right up my alley. My Mom and I both got the Crystal Oil Massage and I treated my Mom to the Signature Facial as well. When you start your Crystal Oil Massage they present three bowls of crystals and you choose whichever one speaks to you at that moment. I instantly chose the bowl with white and green quartz and jade – which was stress relief. Go figure! I asked my therapist to focus on my neck and head which she did. I left feeling like a new person. While I treat myself monthly to a facial, I rarely get a full body massage, so this was such a great treat and wonderful way to wind down our second day in Philly. I was also able to enjoy the steam room and sauna post-massage while I waited for my Mom to finish her second treatment. Next time, I’d add a stop to the infinity pool in the spa which overlooks the city and I’d love to do the Spa’s romantic Night Spa experience.
